This lovely home, built in 1914, had been meticulously maintained, respecting the original architectural details of wavy-edged cedar siding, hand-hewn Tudor-style trim beams, and herringbone brickwork. However, the owners had a small, dark kitchen with minimal storage space and no rear entryway or mudroom.

Calfayan Construction, committed to preserving the exterior integrity and beauty of this distinguished early twentieth-century home, built an addition, that blended with and incorporated elements of the original stone, brick and wood work. Original stone reclaimed during demolition reduced costs and was used to construct the 4’ high water table beneath the new windows.

The new interior features a well-organized, bright mudroom for this active family of athletes, as well as an extended desk/office area under three new energy-efficient windows. Two new entries provide convenient passage to and from the new brick patio and large side yard. Flagstone floors with radiant heat, bead board trim on the vaulted ceiling, and mullioned windows complementing the originals perfectly mesh historical charm and modern convenience.
